Instructor Certification Classes

AHA Instructor

There are several steps in becoming an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor. This section outlines the process of becoming an instructor. 

To become an instructor: 

  1. You must have a valid and current American Heart Association Provider certification for the discipline you plan to teach. Red Cross or other is not accepted!
  2. Complete the online AHA Instructor Essentials course for the discipline you plan to teach. Info will be sent to you once you send your request and is not included in the price of the course.
  3. Purchase an AHA Instructor and Student manuals for the class you want to teach. Info will be sent to you once you send your request and is not included in the price of the course.
  4. Attend an online webinar, “Intro to AHA Instructor” . Info will be sent to you once you send your request.
  5. Attend and pass a Discipline Specific Instructor Course 


  • HeartSaver - contains CPR and First Aid. Intended for non-medical working professionals.
  • BLS - CPR that is geared for but not exclusive to healthcare professionals. You can also teach Heartsaver CPR classes as a BLS Instructor.

Heartsaver Instructor

The Heartsaver Instructor course is for those who have a current Heartsaver CPR ARD and First Aid certification and who are seeking to teach CPR in the community. Heartsaver CPR can be taught to non-medical personnel in child-care centers, for personal trainers, sea captains, and general public.

Cost is $275 (does not include Instructor Essentials course, Student and Instructor manuals)

BLS Instructor Request

BLS Instructor for Healthcare Providers Course

This class is for those who have a current BLS Certification and want to teach within their place of employment only. If you plan to teach at your organization only, this class is for you. You must be able to teach a minimum of 2 classes a year with a minimum of 3 students in each class. 

Cost is $275 (does not include Instructor Essentials course, Student and Instructor manuals)
